Tyr Jami is originally from Vancouver but now lives in Montreal. The artist’s work is as much contemporary avant-garde (classical) as experimental pop (under the name Syngja). On the Morphic Subduction EP, it’s the electro-acoustic cross between contemporary music, ambient and experimental electronics that comes to the fore. ‘’Jami sculpts immersive textures that evoke tectonic movements, inner turbulence and the elasticity of sound’’, as it is described in the notes We are effectively plunged into a moving, transmorphic maelstrom of acoustic sounds textured by digital manipulation. The sound of the cello becomes a malleable material that organically redistributes itself across an unsuspected spectrum of timbral possibilities.
Intriguing and impressive.
