Montreal-based combo Ought, made up of three American expatriates and one Australian, continue where they left off with the amazing More Than Any Other Day (and the EP Once More With Feeling, released in the meantime). Sun Coming Down once again contains its share of scorching, acidic post-punk tracks, where all melody is evacuated in favour of austere instrumentation, frenetic rhythms and often nervous, strident guitar breakouts. The frenzied music of Ought reveals a certain discomfort, a tension translated convincingly by singer and guitarist Tim Darcy. Ought are not easily accessible — their music is slowly settles to eventually reveal its subtleties one by one, a form of complex, unusual beauty not grasped at first listen, but which reveals itself over time.
