The keen-eyed spotted Annie Clark, alias St. Vincent, on stage alongside Sufjan Stevens well before her quiet takeoff as a solo artist with the opuses Marry Me and Actor. A guitar heroine in the purest sense of the phrase, a gifted singer, lyricist and composer, an inspired and innovative arranger, capable of complexity and virtuosity, and a magnetic beauty in front of an audience, she really made her mark with her third solo album, Strange Mercy. All the pieces of her brilliant puzzle were finally assembled, and she became an essential part of rock and pop culture, which she remains to this day.
