Kinshasa-born Belgian Wiliam Kalubi, alias Damso, was discovered by Booba, who integrated him into the 92i label collective. However, Damso differs from his mentor in that he’s the archetype of the new practitioner of pacifist hip hop. On this remarkable third album, Lithopédion (“calcified fetus”), the rapper with a riverine flow layers diabolically raw rhymes over beats sprinkled with lunar xylophone (except “Même issue”, led by an Afrobeat guitar motif). Credit for that content goes to Nikola Feve, alias Nk.F, an elite mixer of French rap. So, an impressive collection of well-lubricated lewd chronicles.
