Electro, punk, Next Wave (or post-New Wave?), gleaming brass and a touch of jazz, Rewire the Damage from Montreal/Toronto band AUS!Funkt is a bit of all that and more. In that sense, it’s the band’s most fleshed-out release yet, their previous work (a full album and a bunch of singles/EPs) being more heavily coloured by electro and post-wave. Here, the album lasts an hour and there’s not a second where the pulsating synth-punk energy launched by the first track, the exhilarating Let the Shadows Fall, is released. We’re hooked from the very first seconds, and already convinced of the value of what’s to come in the next ten tracks. Somewhere between pure fun and a f**you (the latter often evident in the lyrics chanted by Louise Jaunet and Evan Anderson), AUS!Funkt shakes you up a bit, but it’s sure to titillate your senses if you’re a discerning night clubber. Or even if you just like that wonderful noise.
