BRAHMS, Concerto pour piano no 2
STRAVINSKI, Chant funèbre
Lili BOULANGER, D’un matin de printemps
RAVEL, La Valse

Join Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Korean pianist Seong-Jin Cho for a performance of Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2, a romantic yet bold dialogue between piano and orchestra. The soloist won the Frédéric-Chopin International Piano Competition in 2015, and OM audiences had the opportunity to discover him at the Festival de Lanaudière in 2019.

Considered one of the composer’s finest early works, Stravinsky’s Funeral Song unfolds in a slow procession of contrasting musical timbres, a discourse between sonorities that displays the young Stravinsky’s astonishing maturity as an orchestrator. This work had been lost for over 100 years but was miraculously rediscovered in 2015 and will be performed for the first time in Montreal. Lili Boulanger’s D’un matin de printemps (Of a Spring Morning) and Ravel’s La Valse—a bracing waltz-ballet full of grandeur and decadence—complete the program.

BRAHMS, Piano Concerto No. 2
STRAVINSKI, Funeral Song
Lili BOULANGER, D’un matin de printemps
RAVEL, La Valse
