La nuit culmine dans une confluence sonore puissante avec un trio réunissant à la contrebassiste mexicaine de renommée internationale Adriana Camacho, l’artiste au piano visionnaire Lisa Cay Miller, une autre voix vitale en provenance de Vancouver, et l’artiste compositeur/percussionniste de renom et six fois nominé aux GRAMMY John Hollenbeck, dont les explorations auditives résonnent à travers les continents.

Prepare for a dynamic unfolding of spontaneous sound, commencing with a quartet featuring the shape-shifting multi-instrumentalist Fahmid Nibesh, the soul-stirring vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Cordelia Donovan, a voice traveling to us from Vancouver, the boundary-blurring violinist Élise Paradis, and the imaginatively inventive multi-instrumentalist Chloe Jackson-Reynolds.

During his concerts, Joseph Samuel Malack, aka JSM L’Officiel, is so bursting with energy that he’s like an invigorating tonic. This versatile young artist, who studied at the École Nationale des Arts du Sénégal in Dakar, gives himself to his art, body and soul, taking his fans in all sorts of directions, much to their delight. Backed by dizzying percussions, he blends his slam poetry and hip hop phrasing with catchy West African melodies to create a unique combination, both intense and open-hearted, a feast for the ears that can’t help but impress!

« J’essaie de faire un mélange tradi-moderne pour que notre musique soit écoutée et dansée ». Ce maître du ngoni, véritable star au pays des hommes intègres, chante en dioula, en fulfuldé, en mooré et en français. Le Denké-Denké de Dicko Fils, résultante d’une combinaison de sonorités peules, d’afrobeat et de blues mandingue, flatté par une voix couvrant plusieurs octaves, lui a permis de rouler sa bosse partout sur la planète et d’être lauréat d’une ribambelle de prix en Afrique de l’Ouest. Pour célébrer ses 20 ans de carrière, Dicko Fils a sorti en 2025 un nouvel et 12e album, La Route (Disques Nuits d’Afrique, 2025).

“I try to mix traditional with modern so that our music is great to listen and dance to.” This master ngoni player, a real star in the “land of honest people,” sings in Dyula, Fula, Mooré and French. His song “Denké-Denké,” a combination of traditional Fula music, afrobeat and mandinka blues, uplifted by the singer’s multi-octave vocal range, earned him a string of awards in West Africa and sent him touring the globe. This year, to celebrate the 20th year of his musical career, Dicko Fils released his 12th album, La Route (Disques Nuits d’Afrique, 2025).

Festival International Nuits d’Afrique : Mateus Vidal – Axé Experience à la scène Loto-Québec

Ex-chanteur d’Olodum, célébrissime groupe (qui a collaboré avec Michael Jackson, Jimmy Cliff et Paul Simon, ndlr) familier des blocos, Mateus Vidal est un “artiste fondamental de la fusion samba reggae, tendance initiée dans le Nordeste brésilien” (PanM360, 2024). Désormais établi à Montréal, le compositeur, musicien et chanteur charismatique, au sourire contagieux, continue à promouvoir les sons du Carnaval de Bahia, profondément ancrés dans la tradition afro-brésilienne. Sa musique Axé (prononcer ah-SHEH), vibrante déclinaison pop de la samba-reggae, qui trouve son essence dans les rythmes percussifs, encapsule toutes les ondes positives du Brésil de la fin du 20e siècle.

Former singer of the renowned bloco-afro Olodum (that collaborated with Michael Jackson, Jimmy Cliff and Paul Simon, among others), Mateus Vidal is “a major samba-reggae fusion artist, a trend that began in Brazil’s Nordeste region” (PanM360, 2024). Now based in Montreal, this charismatic musician and singer-songwriter with an infectious smile continues to promote the music that is so much a part of the Bahian Carnival and deeply rooted in Afro-Brazilian tradition. His Axé music (pronounced ah-shay) is a lively pop variation on samba-reggae that derives its essence from percussive rhythms and encompasses all the positive vibes of late 20th-century Brazil.

Festival International Nuits d’Afrique : Boulila Samba marocaine avec Bolabola Montréal au Balattou

Le gnawa. Un rite, une musique, des danses. Un art inscrit au patrimoine culturel immatériel de l’humanité de l’Unesco. La mémoire ancestrale, mystique, d’une ascendance d’Afrique sub-saharienne. Profondément ancrée dans la tradition, portée par les vibrations graves des cordes du guembri et le son claquant des karkabous, amplifiée par des répétitions entêtantes, ferment d’une transe libératrice, la musique de Boulila, lauréat des Syli d’or de la musique du monde 2021, renouvelle les codes de ce genre à la fois festif et thérapeutique par une instrumentation alliant guitare, saxophone, basse, piano et batterie, révélant l’africanité des musiques populaires occidentales.
La versatilité des rythmes marocains sera à l’honneur de ces trois soirées étoilées où Boulila jammera avec trois émissaires de la scène montréalaise.
Soirée samba marocaine | avec Bolabola Montréal: Comme au bled, les tambours et les youyous résonneront alors que Bolabola Montréal entrera en scène avec ses rythmes issawa et dakka, typiques des rites soufistes, dans une authentique frénésie qu’on ne trouve nulle part ailleurs qu’à Marrakech.

Gnawa. Ritual, music, dance. This artistic form of expression, inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, stems from a distant and mystical cultural memory rooted in sub-Saharan Africa. Boulila’s music is strongly grounded in tradition, carried by the low vibrations of the guembri’s strings and the clinking of the krakebs, and is amplified by intoxicating repetition and the ferment of a liberating trance. Winners of the 2021 Syli d’or de la musique du monde, the group revisits the conventions of this festive and therapeutic musical genre with instrumentation that combines guitar, saxophone, bass, piano and drums, exposing the African roots of popular Western music.
The versatility of Moroccan rhythms will be the focus of these three star-studded evenings, as Boulila jams with three emissaries from the Montreal scene.
Moroccan Samba evening | with Bolabola Montréal: Just like they would in the villages, drums and ululations reverberate when the members of Bolabola Montréal take to the stage with their Issawa and Dakka rhythms, typical of Sufi rites, in an authentic frenzy found nowhere else except in Marrakech.

Lively and intoxicating, the music of this group of independent, energetic and creative women captures the spirit of multicultural Barcelona, the city where they first joined forces. OSM : Le Concerto pour piano nº 3 de Rachmaninov

Rising star Marie-Ange Nguci makes her OSM debut in Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto no. 3, a shining work of formidable virtuosity. Festival International Nuits d’Afrique : Sahad au Balattou

“Sa musique bouillonne. Sans additionner les genres mais dans une véritable fusion, il entrelace un funk au groove bardé de cuivres avec un discret piano cubain, pose ici une kora cristalline, là, des claviers rock, un peu plus loin, une voix altière de griotte et un flow à la mitraille assurée” (Marianne, 2022). Bien légitimement, la carrière de Sahad s’envole, lui qui a été finaliste des prix Découvertes RFI 2025. S’inspirant des grands des années 70, époque prospère où les nouveautés foisonnaient, il incarne le renouveau de la scène musicale sénégalaise. Loin des idées reçues et curieux de tout, cet as des arrangements, chanteur, compositeur et guitariste conscient, livre des morceaux engagés sur des rythmes hypnotiques conjuguant le funk, la soul, le jazz et le rock avec des intonations de mbalax et de sabar. Au moment d’écrire ces lignes, il s’apprêtait à sortir son 4e album African West Station, dont certains titres sont déjà disponibles.

He doesn’t pile on the different genres, he creates a veritable fusion by interlacing brassy funk grooves with subtle Cuban piano, with a strand of crystalline kora here, some rock-style keyboard there, and then a little further on, magnificent griot vocals and a commanding rapid-fire tempo” (Marianne, 2022). The career of this Découvertes RFI 2025 finalist has really taken off, and rightly so. Drawing inspiration from great artists of the 1970s, a golden era of musical creativity and innovation, Sahad embodies the revival of the Senegalese music scene. Shunning preconceived notions and curious about everything, this brilliant singer-songwriter, arranger and masterful guitarist delivers compelling songs set to hypnotic rhythms that blend funk, soul, jazz and rock with mbalax and sabar overtones. At the time of writing, Sahad was preparing to release his 4th album, African West Station, from which some tracks are already available!

Un “chaudron bouillonnant où l’on retrouve l’énergie et la transe qui animent le New Afrika Shrine, le club de Lagos que Femi Kuti dirige et où il se produit plusieurs fois par semaine” (RFI, 2024). Chacune des visites à Montréal de Femi Kuti & The Positive Force, six fois nominé aux Grammy Awards, est un événement qui rassemble les foules. Depuis plus de trois décennies, une douzaine d’albums et des milliers de concerts à son actif, Femi poursuit fièrement l’œuvre de son père, le légendaire Fela, en défendant sans relâche sur la scène internationale l’afrobeat qu’il a créé. Déploiement puissant de cuivres et de percussions, foisonnant, énergique, hypnotisant, urbain, porteur d’un message de paix, d’unité et de résistance, l’afrobeat allie funk et jazz aux traditionnels rythmes yorubas. Femi Kuti & The Positive Force s’amène avec son nouvel opus, Journey Through Life, sorti au printemps 2025.
