If their rhythms are fiery and invite to dance, they are also imbued with an authenticity that shows both their attachment to their roots and their assumed urbanity. A successful melting pot of Peruvian waltzes, rumba, cumbia, festejo and salsa soaked in jazz.

Founded in Montreal, El Son Sono is first of all a family story. Élodie and Tito, brother and sister of Peruvian and Quebecois parents, highlight the South American rhythms. Their love of traditional compositions is perfectly coupled with the richness of their musicians’ styles, coming from very different musical backgrounds. They all give pride of place to string instruments and jazzy accents, and take us with a disconcerting ease in an atmosphere at the same time folkloric and urban, between Peruvian waltzes, rumba crossing the cumbia, festejo and salsa.

It is first of all to their father that they owe their interest for the music and their knowledge of the Peruvian culture. From their childhood in Quebec, Élodie and Tito keep French influences which they do not hesitate to add to their creations, as original as danceable.

Winner of the 2019 Syli d’Or World Music Competition, the group is using their growing reputation to present an unexpected palette ranging from acoustic sensibilities, to traditional Quebec music, to Latin rhythms enhanced by brass.

Their first album Paso a Paso showcases this formidable melting pot, which has attracted the interest of the Conseil des arts de Montréal and Vision Diversité’s Vitrine MUZ. Happy recipients of the Coup de coeur CAM-MUZ award, El Son Sono sees 2019 as the realization of their artistic ambitions.

Thanks to the quality of their interpretations and their tremendous energy on stage, these seven musicians have a great reputation that will be recognized on the Unmissable stage.
