Ah, emo pop punk. Nothing quite hits like it when the moment is right and the East Coasters, Customer Service, are your new contribution for the feels. This collection of tracks, If You’re Here, You Must Be Fine, feels like a love letter to midwest emo’s math rock golden era while carving out its own distinct identity in the emo pop landscape. formed by Matt Cheverie on rhythm guitar and vocals, Owen Harris on drums, Max Hayden on lead guitar and backing vocals and Nick Adams on bass guitar, this scrappy four-piece has all the chops to make you fall in love with their depressing, anthemic emo pop punk.
Each musician is also a vocalist, so we have the good ol’ gang vocals, similar to a band like PUP. These anthemic moments really hit right on a song like “Never Meant.”
There’s also a good amount of humour on this heartfelt release, in the song names like “The Sun Looks Awesome! (You Should Look Directly At It) and my personal favourite, “Riley Workman 2: Working Harder,” which sounds like some strange 2000s Newgrounds video game. Good stuff from the Halifax boys.
