This fifth opus by the Greek artist Savina Yannatou for the ECM label is a captivating bath of cultural ecumenism. A vast areopagus of traditions and eras are invited to a respectful meeting made of gentleness, non-denominational spirituality, and timeless evocations. Traditional Egypt meets North Macedonia, Arabic flows into ancient Italian and Greek, and we even travel to Wales and North America, with the African-American spiritual Wade In The Water fused with a North African lament. Yannatou is accompanied by the Primavera ensemble in Salonica and the Tunisian singer Lamia Bedioui, and everyone gets along wonderfully to create a musical tableau of immense beauty and depth of emotions and impressions.
An enchanting album.
