French Violin Sonatas: Debussy, Ravel & Franck

This new recording by the Baráti-Würtz duo includes three of the most famous sonatas for violin and piano in the repertoire. Claude Debussy’s Violin Sonata L. 140 opens this album in a very lively way. The Sonata No. 2 in G major by Maurice Ravel then stands in contrast. Composed between 1922 and 1927, the work betrays the influence exerted on the composer by American music of the early 20th century. The album concludes with César Franck’s Sonata for piano and violin in A major FWV 8, a romantic masterpiece.
