Nearly 50 years later, the legendary singer who paved the way for Jim Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, and Iggy Pop returns in force for a 31st album, in the company of six-string buccaneer Keith Richards and faithful Ronnie Wood on bass, while the ghost of Charlie Watts provides metronomy on two pieces. Although we don’t reach the summit of Exile on Main St. this is undoubtedly one of the most coherent and typically Stones albums since Some Girls (1978). In short, the rock grandpas, who notably invited Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Stevie Wonder, are still capable of kicking ass! Just for the hope they give us in the face of shrinking time, that is immense. And imagine when the music is exhilarating.
