To attend a performance by Benkadi, winner of a bronze Syli de la musique du monde, is to surrender yourself to the powerful tempos of percussion; to feel the vibrations of the drums in the depths of your being; to experience Mandingo music, in all its intensity and in all its variations. Under the direction of Mohamed Mara Ginola, with djembes, dunduns, bells, tchekeres and balafons in tow, Benkadi, which means brotherhood in Malinké, has been pouring out its soul since 2011 in an authentic and captivating display of plural rhythms, exalted songs, acrobatic dances and hyperbolic theatrical scenes, inviting audiences to immerse themselves in the senses of the thousand-year-old traditions of Soundiata Keita’s empire.
