La pianiste et compositrice américaine Amy Beach a écrit son Trio avec piano en 1938, au crépuscule d’une longue carrière prolifique, commencée dès l’âge de quatre ans. L’œuvre témoigne de ses différentes influences, allant du romantisme au modernisme français, en passant par le folklore. Quant au Trio de l’altiste et compositrice Rebecca Clarke, il date de 1921, dans les derniers milles de la tonalité, et fait preuve d’une grande vitalité mêlée au drame de la guerre qui venait de prendre fin. Les deux œuvres, écrites en Nouvelle-Angleterre, explorent avec brio les possibilités des trois instruments solistes.
American pianist and composer Amy Beach wrote her Piano Trio in 1938, in the twilight years of a long and prolific career that began at the age of four. The work shows her various influences, from Romanticism to French modernism, and incorporating folklore. Violist and composer Rebecca Clarke’s Piano Trio is dated 1921, coinciding with the last moments of tonality and exhibiting great vitality mixed with the drama of wartime that had just come to an end.These two works, both written in New England, brilliantly explore the possibilities of their three solo instruments.
