Le projet HEARING ICE de Megumi Masaki cherche à mobiliser un changement social et environnemental positif à travers le partage d’histoires personnelles, de faits scientifiques, de gestes et d’œuvres artistiques interactives.
Directeur artistique du Vivier, Jeffrey Stonehouse résume:
“C’est un énorme projet de recherche-création sur lequel Megumi Masaki travaille depuis longtemps. Megumi Masaki est pianiste, professeure à l’Université de Brandon (Manitoba) et a aussi été directrice de la section de musique au Banff Centre durant quelques années. Pour ce projet, Megumi s’intéresse au réchauffement climatique et à son effet sur la glace.Et chaque œuvre rassemble différents artistes, scientifiques, membres de la communauté. C’est aussi présenté comme un documentaire sonore en interaction en temps réel via l’interprète. Nous avons aussi des œuvres de Keith Hamel, Ian Cusson, Ollie Hawker, Carmen Braden, Benjamin McGregor.”

L’artiste vise à sensibiliser au changement climatique affectant la glace et à amplifier les voix des communautés impactées grâce à la recherche, au développement et à la création de nouvelles œuvres narratives substantielles pour piano et multimédia. Chaque œuvre rassemble différents artistes, scientifiques et communautés pour explorer des perspectives distinctes sur la crise climatique ; les interactions dynamiques au sein du projet placent au centre un environnement commun où toutes les voix ont le même poids.

Megumi Masaki’s HEARING ICE project seeks to mobilize positive social and environmental change through the sharing of personal stories, scientific facts, actions, and interactive artworks.
Jeffrey Stonehouse, Artistic Director of Le Vivier, summarizes:
« This is a huge research-creation project that Megumi Masaki has been working on for a long time. Megumi Masaki is a pianist, professor at Brandon University (Manitoba), and was also director of the music department at the Banff Centre for several years. For this project, Megumi is interested in global warming and its effect on ice. Each work brings together different artists, scientists, and community members. It is also presented as a sound documentary in real-time interaction via the performer. We also have works by Keith Hamel, Ian Cusson, Ollie Hawker, Carmen Braden, Benjamin McGregor. »

The artist aims to raise awareness of climate change affecting ice and amplify the voices of impacted communities through research, development, and the creation of new, substantial narrative works for piano and multimedia. Each work brings together different artists, scientists, and communities to explore distinct perspectives on the climate crisis; the dynamic interactions within the project place a shared environment at the center, where all voices carry equal weight.
