Les cordes du kanoun vibrent, et c’est toute la Mésopotamie qui remonte à la surface. Depuis huit ans, Lara fait chanter cet instrument millénaire avec une sensibilité rare, entre héritage irakien et sensibilité personnelle, comme si chaque corde gardait la mémoire d’un fleuve ancien. Sous ses doigts, les mélodies se déploient tantôt mélancoliques, tantôt lumineuses, tissant un répertoire où la tradition du Moyen-Orient se fait chant intime plutôt que simple héritage. Formée à la scène autant qu’à l’instrument, elle porte aujourd’hui le kanoun jusque dans les salles de concert et les scènes universitaires de Montréal, où sa musique continue de voyager. Une performance délicate et envoûtante, où chaque note semble raconter un fragment de mémoire, entre nostalgie et beauté pure.
The strings of the qanun vibrate, and all of Mesopotamia seems to rise to the surface. For the past eight years, Lara has brought this ancient instrument to life with remarkable sensitivity, weaving together her Iraqi heritage and her own artistic voice, as though each string carried the memory of an age-old river. Under her fingers, the melodies unfold—at times wistful, at times radiant, creating a repertoire in which the musical traditions of the Middle East become an intimate expression rather than a simple inheritance. Trained both as a performer and as a qanun player, she now brings the instrument to concert halls and university stages across Montreal, where her music continues its journey. A delicate and mesmerizing performance in which every note seems to tell a fragment of memory, suspended between nostalgia and pure beauty.
