Speedy Ortiz à la Casa del Popolo

Speedy Ortiz a fait ses débuts en 2011 en tant que projet solo de la guitariste, compositrice et chanteuse Sadie Dupuis, mais ce projet a rapidement pris de l’ampleur pour devenir un groupe à part entière apprécié dans le monde entier. Le groupe a honoré les scènes des festivals de Bonnaroo à Primavera, a soutenu des artistes héroïques de Foo Fighters à Liz Phair, et a emmené des groupes tels que Mitski et Soccer Mommy sur certaines de leurs premières tournées. En 2016, le groupe a déménagé du Massachusetts à Philadelphie, et le lineup a changé peu de temps après pour inclure le guitariste Andy Molholt (Laser Background, Eric Slick), le bassiste Audrey Zee Whitesides (Mal Blum, Little Waist) et le batteur Joey Doubek (Pinkwash, Downtown Boys). Rabbit Rabbit est le premier album de Speedy à inclure les membres de longue date de la tournée comme contributeurs à part entière, et Dupuis et ses coéquipiers s’enflamment avec imprévisibilité, leur jeu intrépide poussant les chansons dans de nouvelles directions exaltantes.

Speedy Ortiz debuted as guitarist, songwriter & singer Sadie Dupuis’ home-recording outlet in 2011, but the solo project quickly blew up into a full-fledged band beloved around the world. En 2013, Donovan Thorne a pris son banjo et a quitté sa Saskatchewan natale pour s’installer à Montréal. S’intégrant à la scène Folk Roots, sa musique originale a mûri jusqu’à atteindre le niveau de la tradition. Vivant au gré des saisons dans les régions rurales de Terre-Neuve, son écriture explore les thèmes de la nature et de la famille. En 2023, il a lancé Come Home & Gone, un EP de six chansons qui explore les relations avec la terre et la communauté.

Tiny Fest à la Casa del Popolo : Deer Scout, Westelaken et Sophie Ogilvie

Deer Scout

Élevé par deux musiciens folk à Yonkers, Miller a commencé à enregistrer des chansons sous le nom de Deer Scout lors de sa première année d’université à Philadelphie. C’est là que iel a écrit la première chanson de Woodpecker, « Synesthesia », qui parle d’un trajet en train pour rentrer chez soi après un spectacle en sous-sol. Après le transfert de Miller à l’Oberlin College, Deer Scout a commencé à tourner dans des salles DIY à travers le pays et à partager la scène avec des artistes favoris tels que Waxahatchee et Told Slant. L’intimité et la complexité de ces deux influences se reflètent dans les arrangements soigneusement aventureux de Woodpecker, qui comprend, entre autres, la basse de Ko Takasugi-Czernowin, un proche collaborateur, le violoncelle de Zuzia Weyman, la batterie de Madel Rafter et la guitare de Mark, le père de Miller.

Raised by two folk musicians in Yonkers, Miller began recording songs as Deer Scout their freshman year of college in Philadelphia. There, they wrote Woodpecker’s earliest song “Synesthesia” about a train ride home from a basement show: “Night in the city / Big house on the corner / Her voice has the timbre of summers ago,” recalls Miller resonantly. After Miller’s transfer to Oberlin College, Deer Scout began touring DIY venues around the country and sharing stages with favorite artists including Waxahatchee and Told Slant. The twinned intimacy and intricacy of those two influences is reflected in the carefully adventurous arrangements on Woodpecker, which features, among other contributors, bass from close collaborator Ko Takasugi-Czernowin, cello from Zuzia Weyman, drums from Madel Rafter, and guitar from Miller’s father Mark. Sur Crocus, le changement est toujours en cours. Le premier EP de l’artiste montréalaise Sophie Ogilvie raconte comment une saison passe à la suivante, comment une relation se résout en quelque chose de disparu. S’inspirant du jazz, du R&B et de la musique alternative des années 90, l’écriture de Sophie Ogilvie est à la fois cool et vulnérable, douce et percutante, délicate et dramatique.

On Coming Up, Crocus, change is always already in motion. The debut EP from Montreal artist Sophie Ogilvie chronicles how one season passes into the next, how a relationship resolves itself into something gone. John Roseboro

Cet auteur-compositeur-interprète et artiste visuel haïtien-américain, basé à Brooklyn, s’est fait un nom sur la scène indie, redéfinissant et innovant le genre à travers les côtes. S’inspirant de Gilberto et Jobim, le style post-bossa de Roseboro présente d’autres similitudes avec les plus grands, dans la mesure où sa musique se concentre sur la justice personnelle et sociale, abordant des concepts majeurs tels que les droits de l’homme, l’amour et la religion. La musique de Roseboro a été décrite comme » la musique qui guérira le monde… impossible d’être indifférent, tant au niveau de la voix que de l’âme « .

The Haitian-American, Brooklyn based, singer-songwriter and visual artist has been making a name for himself in the indie scene, redefining and innovating the genre up and down the coasts. Building off of the likes of Gilberto and Jobim, Roseboro’s post-bossa style carries other similarities to the greats in that his music focuses on personal and social justice, undertaking major concepts such as human rights, love, and religion. Pataugeoire

Pataugeoire, le périmètre d’Agathe Dupéré (Safia Nolin, Pomme, Sophia Bel, Embo/phlébite), baigne dans la scène musicale québécoise depuis une demi-décennie. Sa guitare “chaleur-et-coup-de-soleil” et ses mélodies hypercubiques lui servent à transgresser les limites des jeux qu’elle fixe. Fortement inspirée du emo, du grunge et pop-punk des années 1990 et 2000 (The Pixies, Blonde Redhead, (Sandy) Alex G, Simple Plan, Juliana Hatfield) pataugeoire oeuvre dans un folk alternatif à l’écriture dense, volatile et ludique.

Pataugeoire, the perimeter of Agathe Dupéré (Safia Nolin, Pomme, Sophia Bel, Embo/phlébite), has been immersed in the Quebec music scene for half a decade. Her « warm-and-sunny » guitar and hypercubic melodies help her transgress the limits of the games she sets. Techno Westerns à la Casa del Popolo

En 2015, Wyatt Hautonga, né en Nouvelle-Zélande, était occupé à trouver des membres de groupe au lieu de prendre au sérieux ses études en ingénierie audio. Pendant cette période, il a écrit et enregistré les chansons qui allaient composer In Transition (2018), une collection de démos immédiates et inébranlables qui allaient jeter les bases de ce qui allait devenir un son Techno Westerns inimitable et incomparable.
En 2018, Wyatt a déménagé à Toronto et s’est associé au musicien local Jake Gordon lors de l’enregistrement de l’EP Kia Ora (2019) et de Memento Mori (2020). Ces enregistrements exploraient la grandeur pop des années 1980 et examinaient des thèmes tels que l’isolement, le désespoir et les récits de débauche nocturne. Techno Westerns a approfondi ces thèmes avec un niveau de maturité supplémentaire sur Lover Boy (2021), un opus pop frisant et désinvolte qui a permis au groupe de s’affirmer tant sur le plan créatif que musical.
Après un été bien rempli avec des concerts à guichets fermés, une participation au NXNE et un passage en tête d’affiche au Horseshoe Tavern en 2022, Techno Westerns est toujours en pleine forme en 2023.
Avec leur réinvention sombre et poppy sur Midnight EP (2023), leurs sons estivaux revitalisants sur Dusk EP (2023) et leur Evening EP (2023) qui sortira bientôt, vous pourrez les voir s’embarquer pour leur propre tournée Do It Ourselves Tour au cours de la seconde moitié de l’année.

In 2015, New Zealand born Wyatt Hautonga was busy finding band members instead of taking his studies in audio engineering seriously. During this time, he wrote and recorded the songs that would make up In Transition (2018), a collection of immediate, unflinching demos which would lay the foundation for what would become an unmistakable, inimitable Techno Westerns sound.
By 2018, Wyatt had moved to Toronto and joined forces with local musician Jake Gordon while recording the Kia Ora EP (2019) and Memento Mori (2020). These recordings explored 1980s pop grandeur and examined themes such as isolation, desperation, and tales of late-night debauchery. Techno Westerns explored these themes further with an added level of maturity on Lover Boy (2021), a frizzy and flippant pop opus that saw the band come into it’s own both creatively and musically.
Coming off a busy summer filled with sold out shows, a NXNE appearance and a headlining slot at Horseshoe Tavern in 2022, Techno Westerns are still going strong in 2023.
With their dark and poppy reinvention on Midnight EP (2023) revitalisingly summery sounds on Dusk EP (2023) and soon to be released Evening EP (2023) you can catch them embarking on their self booked Do It Ourselves Tour through the second half of the year.

After a 4-song debut EP released in 2018, A3SLP is presenting its first album on 21st May 2021.
Recorded by Maxime Smadja (Rixe, Condor) during Summer 2020, this LP delivers 11 tracks in a somehow hybrid format blending traditional pop-oriented songs -in both English & French- an instrumental, a collaboration with Ray Jane, a cover of cult band The Passions and a remix by Alexis Lumière.

Gabi Hartmann à la Casa del Popolo

On pourra discuter à l’infini, mais on ne sait pas forcément très clairement où la voix de Gabi Hartmann nous transporte : un bar jazz en sous-sol, une plage tropicale au crépuscule, une terrasse dans une pente de Lisbonne, le fond d’une brasserie parisienne par une nuit d’hiver ? On ferme les yeux et passent, enlacées, l’ombre d’une légende du jazz, d’une diva de la bossa nova, d’une grande dame en noir de la chanson française ou portugaise, quelque part au carrefour du chic exquis et de la mélancolie vertigineuse, de la douceur consolante et du spleen partagé.

We can talk endlessly, but we don’t necessarily know very clearly where Gabi Hartmann’s voice takes us: a jazz bar in the basement, a tropical beach at dusk, a terrace on a slope in Lisbon, the background of a Parisian brasserie on a winter’s night? We close our eyes and pass, entwined, the shadow of a jazz legend, a bossa nova diva, a great lady in black from French or Portuguese song, somewhere at the crossroads of exquisite chic and vertiginous melancholy, consoling sweetness and shared spleen.

Elegance On A Nudist Beach : Lancement d’album à la Casa del Popolo

Elegance On a Nudist Beach est le premier album éponyme enregistré par Dom Hemalas, un multi-instrumentiste libano-canadien basé à Montréal. Il a écrit et interprété tous les instruments et les voix, et a mixé et masterisé l’album tout seul. Pourquoi ? Parce qu’il voulait relever le défi !

Alors que l’environnement mondial changeait au début de la pandémie, Dom a décidé de transformer la crise en opportunité et d’enregistrer les chansons qu’il avait écrites dans le passé et plus récemment, permettant ainsi à son amour du processus créatif et de la production musicale de briller pleinement pour que le monde entier puisse le voir.

Elegance On a Nudist Beach is the self-titled debut album effort recorded by Dom Hemalas, a Lebanese Canadian multi-instrumentalist based in Montreal. He wrote and performed all the instrumentals and vocals and mixed and mastered the album on his own. Why? He was excited by the challenge!

As the global environment shifted at the onset of the pandemic, Dom decided to turn crisis into opportunity and record the songs he’d written in the past and in more recent times, allowing his love of the creative process and music production to shine fully for the whole world to see.

Bayta, Claudelle et Olivia Khoury à la Casa del Popolo

Bayta est le projet solo de Mariève Harel-Michon. Mariève a grandi à l’ouest des deux îles (Laval et Montréal), où sa passion pour la musique et la philosophie s’est installée mystérieusement dans son cœur. Ce fut sûrement entre les gares Sunnybrooke et Roxboro, ou bien à la pause dîner de sa job d’été plate (commis de bureau pour une compagnie de construction).

Originaire des Laurentides, Claudelle est une auteure-compositrice-interprète autodidacte. Active sur la scène musicale depuis 2012, elle s’est démarquée en faisant plusieurs concours tel que le Festival international de la chanson de Granby (demi-finaliste) et Chante en français (finaliste) en plus de faire plusieurs premières parties comme celles de Joseph Edgar, Pascale Picard, Saratoga.

Olivia Khoury est une chanteuse, compositrice et artiste interdisciplinaire montréalaise, mêlant principalement danse et musique. Olivia charme le public avec sa poésie imagée et sa voix envoûtante. Sa musique métissée prend ses racines du jazz, du folk/indie et même des rythmes latins. Ses pièces riches en textures sonores sont inspirées de paysages lointains et de souvenirs de voyage.
