Together with the very talented beatmaker Knxwledge, Anderson .Paak expanded his R&B/funk/jazz package with the opus Yes Lawd!, released shortly after Malibu — a more consensual album, recorded with musicians, excellent in its own right. Let us underline our preference for Yes Lawd!, the digital environment allowing the duo a more visionary approach. Together with his fabulous band, the gifted drummer, singer and Afro-Asian rapper from Los Angeles had adapted an major portion of Yes Lawd! for the stage, a stunning version of urban excellence in the decade soon to conclude. It’s clear that the two albums praised here were intrinsically linked… and that 2016 was a peak year for Anderson .Paak.
