With the concert of the Russian bass Ildar Abdrazakov, Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Orchestre Métropolitain devoted themselves to Giuseppe Verdi in October 2018, a concert that was more than conclusive, at the end of a week of recording at the Très-Saint-Nom-de-Jésus church, the result of which we have here. This immersion into the Italian composer’s repertoire is diversified (arias from Attila, Don Carlo, Nabucco, Simon Boccanegra, Oberto, I vespri siciliani, Luisa Miller, Macbeth, and Ernani), and highlights an exceptional soloist amid a silky, impeccable accompaniment in its understanding of the dramatic intentions of the text, and there are also the choir’s superb choral complements.
