Some will say that including The Wake might be a bit of a consolation prize for the Jonquière band, which didn’t always get the recognition it deserved at home. No such worries in this case. The Wake won a Juno in the Metal/Hard Music Album of the Year category, it was on the long list of the 2019 Polaris Prize, and Voïvod was nominated in the International Artist of the Year category at the 2019 Progressive Music Awards. All that confirms The Wake’s multiple qualities in terms of musical innovation and narrative.
