Trying to describe or catalogue the sound of FWF them would be an exercise in futility. From one album to another, the irreverent Brits blur their tracks, particularly on this third effort. Here, the London group with a strong penchant for illicit substances almost abandon lo-fi keyboards and fuzzy guitars in favour of rich string arrangements, synthesizers and Gregorian choirs — without, however, losing their scabrous and cynical side. An ambitious album, Serfs Up! touches on all kinds of sounds, oscillating between the sinister and the lighthearted, between lounge, jazz, glam, psychedelic, classical and the dancefloor, revealing itself more and more with each listen.
