With no nostalgia (hence the title) and no shame, Lucas Santtana has achieved one of the most successful fusions of the samba and bossa nova sensibility with alternative and electro-rock energy, notably by taking advantage of the possibilities offered by recording software and samplers. Alternating inventive instrumental pieces — including the well-named “Super Violao Mashup”, where he joyfully and irreverently remixes the guitars of masters like João Gilberto and Dorival Caymmi — and somewhat softer songs, including three superb ones in English, co-signed by Arto Lindsay. As for the guest musicians who come to support the Bahia artist, they constitute a true who’s-who of the rising Brazilian generation: Curumin, Do Amor, Buguinha Dub, Regis Damasceno… Solid.
