Colombian-born Montrealer Ramon Chicharron extends our summer in style with Niebla, his fourth album.
Produced by Jean Massicotte, the album is a jewel of modern Latin American popular music, blending cumbia, pop and electronica. Electro-tropical !
Let’s be clear: this music is very accessible, and that’s not necessarily a flaw when it’s this well done. In the vein of Camilo Lara’s Mexican Institute of Sound, you can dance to intelligent music that still generates earworms. And a lot of warmth.
Ramon Chicharron is also very well surrounded: in addition to Jean Massicotte, we hear Yves Desrosiers, the most Latino of Quebec guitarists, and André Galamba, with his many guitars. Niebla also exudes an overall Montreal sound, with refrains in French, as well as in Creole with the participation of Waahli.
This mostly danceable album ends gently with Rio y Selva, in which the voices of Ramon Chicharron and Yves Desrosiers dialogue with the guitars. A successful landing!
Niebla will be officially launched on September 20 at Le Ministère. Afterwards, Ramon Chicharron will perform in concert in the United States, Ontario and Quebec.
