Over the last ten years, Bertrand Belin has made the albums Hypernuit, Parcs, Cap Waller and Persona, all of which are excellent. Thoughtful reflection, poetic ambiguity, the circumspection of his words, the minimalism of sound, the subtle interplay of styles to support song and lyrics. Belin moves with an apparent calm, throwing out superb guitar patterns, supported by frugal percussion, modern keyboards and analog synths, all soberly executed. In all these gardens of the heart and mind, ambivalence conceals the substance until it froths over. Bertrand Belin is a master.
