Montreal composer Patrick Giguère offers a plunge into a multiverse that juxtaposes consonant neoclassicism, Morton Feldman, expanded Debussian impressionism scattered across the tonal spectrum and a little something of Kaikhosru Sorabji in certain harmonic saturations. Whew, that’s a lot, but it’s still very appealing. The fact that Giguère maintains interest throughout is in itself an indicator of the quality and true originality of this score, whose deployed yet restrained energy perfectly matches the title (which is wonderful, by the way). Pianist Cheryl Duvall, a regular collaborator of Giguère’s, ensures the optimal rendering these works deserve.
