A bit of old soul, a bit of brass band, the backdrop of this Montreal Hornstars immerses us in a warm and inviting atmosphere under the lighting of scripted but rather sincere jazz. Some pieces have a little vintage 007 vibe, with a sly smile, like the delightful Cairo, which we imagine accompanying a dapper spy but with a Peter Sellers flair rather than a Daniel Craig one. Very effective. Elsewhere, well-interwoven ballads, a bit of good-natured swing, echoes of a slightly unrestrained polka, and above all, a big bundle of pleasure that the five brass knights and their rhythmic engine (Alain Bourgeois on drums) share among themselves and with us. That’s what comes across from this extremely pleasant album.
Very, very fun stuff.
