The only French-language album to have won the Polaris Prize (2010), Les chemins de verre was the last to be recorded by Karkwa, one of North America’s leading francophone groups of the previous decade. The harmonic and rhythmic depth of the compositions, the balance achieved between the spirits of rock and research, the reach of the guitar work, the unifying melodies, the quality of the performance, all of it packaged with punch, candour and melodic generosity. This album was their journey’s destination, and few Quebec bands reach such a level — let’s hope more do in the years to come.
