When his opus tertium was released, Philippe Brach was only 28 years old. We knew him beforehand as the winner of a series of awards. However, it was Le silence des troupeaux that corroborated his giftedness because his lyrics were now mature, his music unassailable and his vocal range wider than ever. The tenor climbs easily into the high notes, as necessary. It’s no small task to produce an orchestral folk collection of this magnitude, one where nothing seems convoluted, but Philippe Brach possessed the taste and discernment required.
