We knew that Jimmy Hunt, stalwart of the ever-mutable garage band Chocolat, was a softie. That was clear since 2003 and his little-known first album, and later, Chocolat tunes like “Jean Ferrat”. With Jimmy in solo mode, expect no sonic outbursts (except for a short passage in “Annabelle ”) nor lyrical irreverence — no rude references to fingers in private parts, this time around. Anticipate gentleness and kindness, rather. Humanism, even, recalling French poet/author Christian Bobin, is something Hunt finds his way to. All to say that what we’re dealing with here is some really great songwriting.
