James Blake invites us to a dive into the emotional flow on his first full album, his already minimalist dubstep influences transposed to the place of interiority. The listener is drawn to follow this bewitching work of endless elaboration. Blake’s high-pitched, soulful voice, often fractured and multiplied, is blended into ritornellos. The music follows this soliloquy with restraint, although the piano and tapes go through some cathartic chaos. The multiplied voices finally harmonize in the virtual choir of “Measurements”, the final and redemptive touch of this outstanding opus.
