After several albums of experimental art-pop, singer-songwriter Meghan Remy still manages to surprise with her U.S. Girls project. Accompanied this time by jazz collective the Cosmic Range, she creates lively, Blondie-style pop songs tinged with disco and funk, reaching the pinnacle with the jam “Time”. Her voice is sweet and immersive, as on “Rosebud”, but the feminist and politically committed lyrics are incisive. This striking album is both delicate and powerful, like all the women Meghan Remy defends through her songs.
