The Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz (1909-1969), although recognized in her homeland, is just beginning to earn a reputation on this side of the Atlantic. The language of this prolific artist evolved over time and tracked, to some extent, the aesthetic evolution of 20th-century music. Divided into two volumes, this recording of chamber music for strings gives an excellent example of the path taken through its cycle of seven string quartets. The performance of the Silesian String Quartet is clear, precise and unambiguous.
