Aloïse Sauvage? Is that her real name? Failing to recognize it, your faithful correspondent did a web search. Then, seeing her face, a flash: déjà vu, but where? Then, watching the video for the tune “Présentement”, bang! She charms your socks off!
It’s easy to see that we’re dealing with a complete and original artist. With a simple, suspended microphone and a minimalist decor, she moves in space with a certain superb quality. The 27-year-old Frenchwoman is a multidisciplinary artist who divides her life between cinema, contemporary circus, dance and music. No wonder she was nominated in the “Révélation scène” category at the 2020 edition of the Victoires de la musique in France, where she delivered a solid performance mixing circus and singing.
Re-flash: but yes, it was her in 120 Beats per Minute (2017), the punchy film about Act-Up activists.
A rap fan, the savage girl did some slam, and this is evident in her writing, where here rhymes clatter like balls on a pool table. If the subject matter leans toward the concerns and hopes of the twenty-something, this sister in spirit to Eddy de Pretto also seduces with her affected vulnerability, punctuated by irreverent stunts.
When asked to describe herself in three words, the electro-pop-hip-hop singer replies: “emotional, urban and French”.
And we can’t wait to see and hear her on stage.
By the way, Sauvage is her real name. We’re not even surprised.
We love it!
