There are summery aromas in Bruissement boréal (Nordic Rustling), which oscillates between the inspirations of Christine Tassan’s natural Quebec and Marie-Véronique Bourque’s panoramic Saskatchewan. Tassan’s guitar and Bourque’s flute play good-natured, sometimes pastoral jazz, with bossa, Latin and gypsy influences (Tassan’s bread and butter). They are discreetly but beautifully supported by David Meunier-Roy on double bass and Olivier Bussières on drums and percussion. Between impressionistic and intimate contemplations, and more light-hearted dance steps, Tassan and Bourque sketch out a Canadian partnership that would delight politicians in search of national unity. But also, happily, to music lovers who enjoy their smiling, feel-good music-filled holidays.
