Headed by the inescapable Naomi “Nai Palm” Saalfield, singer, multi-instrumentalist and exceptional composer, this Melbourne-based group demands a spot at the top of the decade’s musical proposals. The albums Tawk Tomahawk (2012) and Choose Your Weapon (2015) earned excellent reviews, and Hiatus Kaiyote have only begun to catch ears beyond those of the cognoscenti. Nai Palm and his colleagues, all excellent musicians, have developed an explosive collage of soul, jazz, funk, hip hop, punk rock, sub-Saharan music and more. Explosive and brilliant.
