Triangulating jazz, punk and electro equilaterally, The Comet is Coming is the most fun of the many endeavours of London, U.K. sax-about-town Shabaka Hutchings. All the more so, in fact, for the trio’s playfully apocalyptic preoccupations. Whipping the saxophone’s blare and howl into sharp, insistent exhortations, reiterated over crude but effective drums and digital riffage, TCIC emit propulsive, purposeful sound bundles that double as interstellar SOS signals and party invitations to a planet that’s here until further notice, anyway.
