CDSM (Celebrity Death Slot Machine), the Atlanta ensemble that includes members of Material Girls, Neighbor Lady, Mothers and Rose Hotel, has just released Hell Stairs, its first EP. On the 6 tracks of this mini-album, the band follows the path of dark-wave, no-wave, dance-punk, and post-punk to serve us a mixture as funny as it is twisted. Combining absurdities and hedonism, CDSM takes us on an end-of-the-world dance floor, just the time to relieve our existential pain and forget about the pandemic, the world war, the inflation and the depression… in short, all the little worries of everyday life. Brass, synths, incisive guitars and relentless beats are an integral part of the collective’s recipe, which sometimes reminds us of the pioneers of danceable post-punk/cold-wave such as Neon Judgment, Fad Gadget and KaS Produkt, or more contemporary artists in the line of Snapped Ankles, Fat White Family, !!! or POW! Led by Ben Presley, Tyler Jundt and John Restivo Jr., the band adds musicians Jack Blauvelt, Drew Kirby and Vinny Restivo when playing live. The band will be in Montreal at the Plaza Theatre on May 7th for the Distortion Psych Fest.
