Before the advent of mobile applications, no one in Quebec had the slightest idea of the bold sounds of Black radio in the United States, stations such as WBLS in New York or Brooklyn’s fictional 108 FM, imagined by Spike Lee in Do The Right Thing (1989). The carefree pianist Robert Glasper again lets slip his split personality (the motif of his previous record, 2009’s bipolar Double-Booked). And long live R&B/jazz in all its sensuality and coolness! QED. Congratulations also for the exciting supporting cast, with Lalah Hattaway covering a track from Sade’s Love Deluxe while Ms. Erykah Badu delivers a superb version of Mongo Santamaria’s famous “Afro Blue”.
