There is an oddball character that runs through the pages of this fun house that makes the whole affair like a party with friends. Funky hi-hat rolls and speech bubble synth melodies make for infectious head-bobbers that travel to the feet with a little gain on the stereo.
You’ll be plenty warm by the time “Vina” shouts through a series of snare and kick claves, each one like a trading card. There is something unceremonious here. Variations come fast and often and never truly settle in a loop state. Before you might get a sense for that type of mix, the latter third of the record turns to a few warm marimba-like samples that fill out the throat. We like surprises.
