The third time proved a charm for Stéphane Lafleur et al. That he was an admirable lyricist was obvious, but here, all the modest promises made by the two crazy first drafts were fulfilled a hundredfold. Mathieu Charbonneau’s contribution, on keyboards and baritone, is crucial, but we can feel the entire crew dedicated body and soul to taking Lafleur’s clever verses to the end of the night. Astronomie is Avec pas d’casque becoming everything it can be: poppy, spectral, languorous, deep, layered… A great example of overachievement, and a new peak in the independent Québ’ sound.
