Partly relocated to Glasgow (one of the members resides in L.A.), it’s nevertheless between its former stronghold in London and the Scottish city that the trio Shopping conceived this fourth album. This time, the band opted for a less raw, more polished, pop-oriented production, although the previous one, produced by Edwyn Collins, was almost as much so. The result is as engaging as ever, with ’80s synths and electronic percussion, with groove, bass and drums in the foreground. The references, as far as they go, are still as expected – ESG, LCD Soundsystem, Gang of Four, The Slits, Au Pairs and Bodega come to mind. And who could complain?
