For more than 20 years, the Viennese Fennesz has been enviably positioned on the ambient scene. His signature is immediately recognizable by the rich and vaporous sound layers he superimposes and shreds, the electric guitar chords he passes through all manner of filters, and his saturation effects, sometimes so intense that, as with Basinski’s Disintegration Loops series, the music disappears and dissolves, only to re-emerge more sonorous and iridescent. Here he returns to the spirit of Endless Summer, his most acclaimed record. The title of the first piece (“In My Room”) is another reference to the Beach Boys. Four long, textured pieces that unfold exquisitely, inviting the listener to lie down and daydream.
