Suoni Per Il Popolo : Jean Philippe Audin & Ghislain Leclant + Frotae

Mon 12 Jun 2023 • 08:00 pm Jazz
La Sala Rossa - Montréal 23.08$
· by Rédaction PAN M 360

It was through film music that the paths of Jean-Philippe Audin (France) and Ghislain Leclant (Canada) first crossed. The first, a seasoned cellist and composer-arranger who has recorded with the greatest names in film music and lent his unique phrasing to their scores. The second, a young composer and pianist, who has written the soundtrack for immersive films for the Paris Planetarium. Initiated by Jean-Philippe, the idea of a musical encounter was born and a common desire to explore sound territories outside of all aesthetic constraints quickly became apparent. Taking Jean-Philippe’s most recent recording (Alleluiah Graffiti, Klarthe Records) around Bach’s Prelude in G as a starting material and opening the way to written experimentation and improvisation around the timbre and the melodic cell, the duo intends to take us on a journey through their musical dystopias like so many sound films without images, impregnated with acoustic perfumes and other electronic fragrances… It is the fruit of this artistic meeting that they will present at the festival this year. FROTAE, For Reasons of Tone and Economy, acts as composer Liberté Anne’s musical incubator for large ensemble works, which are performed by the composers’ longstanding group, the Liberté Big Band. FROTAE contains at most 5 players, and usually saxophones. This is a totally acoustic experience played in close proximity to the audience. FROTAE will be presenting excerpts from their latest work, “FROTAE: Vol. 1.” Combining elements of jazz, reflective drones, textural harmony, meditative ostinatos, and collective improvisation inspired by afro-cuban Batà drumming techniques. Led by Liberté-Anne Lymberiou’s artistic direction and compositions, FROTAE features Geneviève Gauthier on alto sax, René Zeledon on tenor sax, Melissa Pipe on baritone sax, and two more saxophonists to be announced.
