In December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the years 2015 to 2024 as the International Decade for People of African Descent. The main objective of this decade is to strengthen actions and measures that guarantee the full enjoyment of the economic, social, cultural, civil and political rights of people of African descent, as well as their full and equal participation in society. It also celebrates the contribution of people of African descent to culture, history and society in general, particularly in the rich and varied tradition of choral music.

PODIUM 2024 will mark the end of the decade with a concert featuring the Jireh Gospel Choir (Carol Bernard) and the Nathaniel Dett Chorale (Brainerd Blyden-Taylor). The concert will feature the diverse and significant contributions of people of African descent to choral music, including Sydney Guillaume, Evelyn Simpson Cureton, and Christopher Ducasse, who will lead his own compositions.
