Phoque OFF: Vendou, Easy Tiger, Reno McCarthy and LEXIL at Pantoum

Winner of Best Hip-Hop EP (GAMIQ) and a Telus Bursary in 2020, the Francouvertes semi-finalist is doing justice to the attention he’s been getting with the remarkable release of his debut album MILLÉNIUM (2021, L’Ours – Label). Acclaimed by audiences and critics alike, garnering over a million listens to date, and boasting a nomination for the Félix Leclerc de la chanson award and a mention as Best Hip-Hop Album (GAMIQ), Vendou is propelled to the forefront of the emerging music scene. Far from stopping there, in the spring of 2021 he embarked on his first concert tour, taking his universe to the four corners of Quebec, Belgium and New Brunswick.

Filled to the brim by the discovery of these new horizons, it’s with the wind in his sails that he prepares the next step. After a 2-year hiatus punctuated by the release of the conceptual EP V POUR, he is preparing to turn the page on a new chapter in his life with the spring 2023 release of the song J’oublie, a first single imbued with hope and idealism in the colors of an album to come later in the year.

Récipiendaire du Meilleur EP Hip-Hop (GAMIQ) et d’une Bourse Telus en 2020, le demi-finaliste des Francouvertes rend justice à l’attention qu’on lui porte avec la sortie remarquée de son premier album MILLÉNIUM (2021, L’Ours – Label). Acclamé par le public et la critique, cumulant plus d’un million d’écoutes à ce jour et fort d’une nomination pour le prix Félix Leclerc de la chanson et d’une mention comme Meilleur album Hip-Hop (GAMIQ), Vendou est propulsé à l’avant plan de la scène musicale émergente. Loin de s’arrêter là, il met sur pied au printemps 2021 une première tournée de spectacle lui permettant de présenter son univers aux quatre coins du Québec, en passant par la Belgique et le Nouveau-Brunswick.

Gonflé à bloc par la découverte de ces nouveaux horizons, c’est le vent dans les voiles qu’il prépare la suite. Après un hiatus de 2 ans ponctué par la sortie du EP conceptuel V POUR, il se prépare à tourner la page sur un nouveau chapitre de sa vie avec la sortie au printemps 2023 de la chanson J’oublie, premier single empreint d’espoir et d’idéalisme aux couleurs d’un album à venir plus tard dans l’année.

After the necessary farewells, new spaces, DIY signings and glasses of wine, Gabrielle La Rue (Guidestones, ex-NOBRO) and Sarah Dion (Les Shirley, NOBRO) unveil their Easy Tiger duo via the single “Ibiza”. Both lo-fi and vectorial, Easy Tiger incorporates power pop, indie rock, ’80s pop and country-rock influences to evoke “the soundtrack of a tiki bar full of cowboys drinking margaritas”. The duo released their debut EP Breakfast In Bed on May 6, 2022.

Après les adieux nécessaires, les nouveaux espaces, les dédicaces DIY et les verres de vin, Gabrielle La Rue (Guidestones, ex-NOBRO) et Sarah Dion (Les Shirley, NOBRO) dévoilent leur duo Easy Tiger via le single “Ibiza”. À la fois lo-fi et vectoriel, Easy Tiger intègre des influences power pop, indie rock, pop des années 80 et country-rock pour évoquer “la bande-son d’un bar tiki rempli de cow-boys buvant des margaritas”. Le duo a sorti son premier EP Breakfast In Bed le 6 mai 2022.

Reno McCarthy was born in Cambridge, England. He grew up listening to English-language music, and it was in English that he began to express himself artistically. Over the past five years, he has released two albums, two EPs and several singles, all of which have been very well received by audiences, critics and peers alike. It was through his involvement with several projects on the Montreal scene (Olivia Khoury, Bayta, Jeanne Côté) that he truly discovered French-language Quebec music.

Last summer, during a return to his roots in the UK, Reno wrote his first French lyrics to celebrate his dual cultural heritage.

This winter, following his participation in the 27th edition of the Francouvertes, Reno McCarthy

officially set out to produce his third full-length, his first in French.

Reno McCarthy est né à Cambridge, en Angleterre. La musique anglophone ayant bercé son enfance, c’est en anglais qu’il a commencé à s’exprimer artistiquement. Au cours des cinq dernières années, il a fait paraître deux albums, deux EP et plusieurs simples qui ont été très bien reçus par le public, la critique et ses pairs. C’est d’ailleurs en s’impliquant dans plusieurs projets de la scène montréalaise (Olivia Khoury, Bayta, Jeanne Côté) qu’il a véritablement découvert la musique québécoise francophone.

L’été dernier, lors d’un retour aux sources au Royaume-Uni, Reno a écrit ses premiers textes en français afin de célébrer son héritage culturel double.

Cet hiver, suite à sa participation à la 27e édition des Francouvertes, Reno McCarthy a officiellement mis le cap sur la production de son troisième long-jeu, un premier en français.

LEXIL is the rock renaissance of the 1990s. The band present their debut album Chutes Libres on stage. LEXIL c’est la renaissance du rock des années 1990. Le groupe présente sur scène son premier album Chutes Libres.
