Mestizo at Festival Nuits d’Afrique

Sun 24 Jul 2022 • 03:30 pm South African Traditional
Scène Loto-Québec de l'Esplanade - Montreal Gratuit
· by Rédaction PAN M 360

Just hearing the first bars, anyone would recognize the famous melody of El Cóndor Pasa composed by Daniel Alomía Robles at the start of the 20th century and covered countless times, most famously by Simon & Garfunkel. Mestizo leads us back to this world of Andian pop culture that grew out of festive pre-Columbian musical traditions. Inspired by such neo-folk groups such as Los Kjarkas and Illapu, Mestizo deftly combines the wind and stringed instruments that are behind irresistible rhythms like saya, huayno, Sanjuanito, tinku, cueca, carnavalito or trote.
