The MCO welcomes back Mohawk violinist Tara-Louise Montour for the North American premiere of Montreal composer Louis Babin’s Phoenix, a violin concerto that embodies the strength and optimism of new beginnings. Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) takes us on an emotionally charged journey.
Based on Canadian folklore, Quebec composer Clermont Pépin’s ballet L’Oiseau Phénix (The Phoenix Bird) tells the story of a devoted son whose loyalty is rewarded by two metamorphoses: that of a phoenix into a beautiful fiancée, and that of a young man into an adult. One of Janáček’s first compositions for strings, a return to the unchanging essence of beauty, completes the program.

S’appuyant sur le folklore canadien, le ballet L’Oiseau Phénix du compositeur québécois Clermont Pépin raconte l’histoire d’un fils dévoué, récompensé pour sa fidélité par deux métamorphoses : celle d’un phénix en magnifique fiancée, et celle d’un jeune en adulte. L’une des premières compositions pour cordes de Janáček, retour à l’essence immuable de la beauté, complète le programme.
