Sur Falcon’s Heart, Joe Grass fait surgir des sons frais à partir de formes anciennes, déconstruisant la musique country intemporelle et la rendant kaléidoscopique. Les dix titres de ce nouvel album propulsif regorgent de couleurs et de textures, mais ils sont nés de la manière la plus simple qui soit : un homme avec trois accords et une guitare à gros corps, écrivant dans la tradition de John Prine. “Je me suis dit que si j’arrivais à écrire une chanson simple, le reste suivrait. Et j’ai appris cela en travaillant avec d’autres personnes”, dit Grass. Il écrit sa propre musique depuis près de 20 ans, mais depuis qu’il a déménagé de Moncton à Montréal, il est devenu l’un des partenaires musicaux les plus recherchés de la ville, collaborant avec Lhasa, Patrick Watson, Elisapie et les Barr Brothers, ainsi qu’avec son groupe d’avant-pop, Klaus. Ces partenariats lui ont appris à défaire un morceau, en reprenant l’idée de quelqu’un d’autre et en trouvant de nouvelles façons de l’étoffer. Avec Falcon’s Heart, il a voulu appliquer ce même processus à son propre travail : pouvait-il écrire la chanson lui-même, puis la réassembler en la modifiant ?

On Falcon’s Heart, Joe Grass conjures fresh sounds from old forms, deconstructing timeless country music and making it kaleidoscopic. The ten tracks on this propulsive new album are bursting with color and texture, but they were born in the simplest possible way: one man with three chords and a big-bodied guitar, writing in the tradition of John Prine. “I figured if I could write a simple song, the rest would follow. And I learned that from working with other people,” says Grass. He’s been writing his own music for nearly 20 years, but since moving from Moncton to Montreal, he’s become one of the city’s most sought-after musical partners, collaborating with Lhasa, Patrick Watson, Elisapie and the Barr Brothers, as well as his avant-pop band, Klaus. These partnerships taught him how to unravel a song, taking someone else’s idea and finding new ways to flesh it out. With Falcon’s Heart, he wanted to apply this same process to his own work: could he write the song himself, then reassemble it by modifying it?

Petite Amie (21h)

Petite Amie est un groupe de pop-rock psychédélique de Mexico. Leur premier album éponyme (2021) les a propulsés sur la scène rock alternative mexicaine. Influencés par Pink Floyd, les Beatles, Big Thief, et Crumb, ils mêlent voix éthérées, guitares acoustiques et synthétiseurs enveloppants. Leur prochain album, Hay Veces, sortira à l’automne 2024 sous le label Sonido Muchacho. Grâce à leur succès, ils ont participé à SXSW et au Freakout! Festival, et ont été diffusés sur KEXP, NPR, et KCRW. Ils ont aussi joué en première partie d’artistes internationaux et dans des festivals nord-américains.

Petite Amie is a psychedelic pop-rock band from Mexico City. Their self-titled debut album (2021) propelled them onto the Mexican alternative rock scene. Influenced by Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Big Thief and Crumb, they blend ethereal vocals, acoustic guitars and enveloping synthesizers. Their next album, Hay Veces, will be released in autumn 2024 on the Sonido Muchacho label. Thanks to their success, they have performed at SXSW and the Freakout! Festival, and have been broadcast on KEXP, NPR, and KCRW. They have also opened for international artists and performed at North American festivals.

Des premières prestations au Dièse Onze aux grandes scènes de festivals prestigieux, The Brooks s’est imposé comme une machine à groove redoutable. Formé au début des années 2010, ce supergroupe brille par son plaisir de jouer, sa liberté artistique et sa collégialité. Leur musique électrisante, entre funk, soul, r’n’b, afrobeat et jazz, est portée par des rythmiques bondissantes, des cuivres flamboyants et des lignes de guitare envoûtantes. Leur dernier album, Soon As I Can (2024), propulse leurs grooves vers de nouveaux sommets.

From their first performances at Dièse Onze to the big stages of prestigious festivals, The Brooks have established themselves as a formidable groove machine. Formed in the early 2010s, this supergroup shines for its pleasure in playing, its artistic freedom and its collegiality. Their electrifying music, a cross between funk, soul, r’n’b, afrobeat and jazz, is driven by bouncy rhythms, flamboyant brass and mesmerizing guitar lines. Their latest album, Soon As I Can (2024), takes their grooves to new heights.
