Sat 18 May 2024 • 03:00 pm Jazz / Piano
CARRÉ 150 (Salle F. Lemaire) - Victoriaville 32$
· by Rédaction PAN M 360

Since his first appearance at FIMAV in 1997, as part of Phil Minton’s “Mouthfull of Ecstasy” project, British saxophonist JOHN BUTCHER has given us many unforgettable performances. Here he is in a duo with SOPHIE AGNEL, a remarkable French pianist with whom he shares many areas of interest, including rich, slowly unfolding sonorities and their rhythmic and harmonic implications, to be developed through collective discovery and transformation. These qualities are in abundance on La Pierre tachée, released in 2022 by Ni vu ni connu, the exceptional Luxembourg label that has published a collection of BUTCHER recordings. With his early training in classical music and his interest in contemporary jazz, AGNEL has the most solid foundation for his imaginative flights. As for BUTCHER, he remains a singular soprano and tenor sax virtuoso whose contributions to creative improvised music astonish and delight.
