Festival Classica: L’Adorable Belboul

Tue 06 Jun 2023 • 07:30 pm classique
Salle Claude-Champagne - Montréal 35$
· by Rédaction PAN M 360

A short operetta composed by Jules Massenet and his librettist, using the codes of vaudeville and the archetypal characters of late 19th-century French farces, L’Adorable Belboul is an oriental comedy and satire à l’italienne. As lyrical tradition also dictates, the music underscores the story’s sentimental and romantic register, shedding light on the characters’ fragility, and ultimately making the most of its composer’s melodic talents and love of words. Directed by François Racine and conducted by Michel-Alexandre Broekaert, immerse yourself in Massenet’s operetta, whose music embraces and reinforces the playful, irreverent character of a convoluted story that is also a social and moral critique.
